    Ingredients

    • Apples. We like to use a mix of sweet and sour apples like Granny Smith and Golden Delicious.
    • Cinnamon. Make sure to use good quality cinnamon for the best flavor!
    • Coconut oil. Or any oil you have on hand.
    • Sugar. We like to use brown sugar, but any sugar will do!
    • Lemon juice. For adding a bit of tang!
    • Corn starch. To thicken up the sauce.
    • Salt. To bring out the sweetness.
    • Nutmeg. Optional.

    How to make this recipe

Core, peel, and slice apples. We like to cut them into medium-sized slices. Just make sure they are not too thick and the slices are even.

Next, add them to a small baking dish alongside the rest of the ingredients.

Use your hands or a spatula to mix well until everything is well coated. Bake in a pre-heated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden and fork-tender.

These baked apples with cinnamon are best served right away, while they are warm and bubbly!

    Storage Tips

    • Fridge: Let apples cool to room temperature. Transferto a covered container and save in the fridge for up to 5 days!
    • Freezer: Let apples cool to room temperature. Transfer to a covered container and freeze for 3 months. Thaw before serving. Keep in mind that when they thaw, the texture will change.

    How to re-heat:

    • Oven: Pre-heat oven to 350ºF (180ºC) and add the baked apples to an oven-safe bowl. Bake for 10 minutes or until warmed through.
    • Microwave: Place the baked apples in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 1-2 minutes or until warmed through.

    Optional add-ins and substitutions

    • Fresh or ground ginger: Adding some ginger will give a great kick to these baked apples with cinnamon! We suggest adding up to 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger, or ½ teaspoon ground ginger.
    • Vanilla extract: Adding ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract will give even more flavor to this recipe!
    • Corn starch: If you don't have corn starch on hand you can use arrowroot starch instead.
    • Sugar: If you don't want to add sugar, just omit it! In that case, you will also need to skip the corn starch, since it's used to thicken the syrup that's formed from the sugar.

What to serve with baked apples

These baked apples with cinnamon are pretty good on their own, but we all know toppings are life, aren't they?

We love to serve these apples with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a dollop of coconut whipped cream. If I am feeling extra fancy I will add a big drizzle of salted caramel. So good!

Alternatively, you can serve these apples alongside my cinnamon roll (no eggs!) and a drizzle of cinnamon roll frosting without cream cheese.
