Homemade Vegan Bagels (Easy!)

• Bread flour (high-protein flour) • Active dry yeast • Salt • Lukewarm water • White sugar • Maple syrup • Seeds for sprinkling • Onion powder (optional)

ingredients You'll need:

In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in lukewarm water. Set it aside for 10  minutes, until foamy on top.

step 1

When the yeast is ready, add it to the bowl with the flour and salt. (If you don't want to mix the dough by hand, you can use a stand mixer with a dough hook).

step 2

Using a fork, mix until the dough becomes sticky so that you can't continue with the fork anymore.

step 3

Sprinkle some flour onto a clean surface and transfer the dough. Knead for 5-6 minutes, or until it becomes smooth, elastic, and soft.

step 4

After rising, lightly punch down the dough to release air. Using a knife or a bench scraper, divide the dough into 8 balls.

step 5

Using your thumb, poke a hole in the middle of each ball. Then, widen the hole to about 2 inches. Cover with a towel and let rise again.

step 6

Fill a large pot with water, add maple syrup and stir. Bring to a boil. Drop the bagels into the water,  and boil for 1 minute on each side.

step 7

Then, take them out of the water and sprinkle them with your toppings. Bake for 20-22 minutes, or until golden brown.

step 8

Enjoy with your favorite spreads like vegan cream cheese, avocado, hummus, or skip the onion powder and enjoy with jam, chocolate spread, and more!
