This Blended Cottage Cheese is ready in less than 5 minutes, with 1 ingredient only! It's smooth, fluffy, and creamy, and can be enjoyed either as a breakfast, snack, or appetizer. Perfect for both sweet and savory toppings.
Ever since making my cheesecake without cream cheese, I've found a new way to enjoy cottage cheese - blended (aka whipped).
I know some people don't enjoy the texture of cottage cheese because of the curds. If you're one of those, this recipe is for you!
This whipped cottage cheese is SO versatile, you can use it on pretty much anything - as a dip for crackers, on bread, alongside veggies, etc. I even use it in my cottage cheese mac and cheese.

Why Make This Recipe
- It's creamy and smooth and has NO curds! If you're not a fan of curds in cottage cheese, but you still want to enjoy this high-protein ingredient, blending is the way to go!
- Quick and easy to make. It requires only 1 ingredient and is ready in less than 5 minutes.
- Spreadable. It's great on toast, homemade onion bagels, or any bread, or as a dessert topped with fresh fruit.
- Great alternative to other dairy products. Skyr, Greek yogurt, sour cream, and cream cheese can all be substituted with this whipped cottage cheese. It's especially good as a substitute for yogurt in smoothies such as in my Watermelon Mango Smoothie.
What You'll Need
- Cottage cheese: Use cottage cheese with 2% fat or higher for the best results. I like to use one with 4% fat because it has the best texture. Avoid using fat-free cottage cheese, as it can be thin when blended. For brands, I recommend either Dairy Pure or Good Culture.
- Food processor or a high-speed blender: I've found that a food processor works best, but you can also use a blender. However, when using a blender, you may need to add some liquid like milk or water.
See the recipe card below for the full list of ingredients and exact measurements.
How To Make Blended Cottage Cheese
Step 1: Add cottage cheese to a food processor or a high-speed blender.
Step 2: Blend for 30 seconds, then stop to scrape down the sides.
Step 3: Continue blending and scraping the sides as needed, for 1 more minute or until completely smooth and creamy.
👩🏼🍳 Petra's Tip
Use full-fat cottage cheese - opt for cottage cheese with a higher fat content (2% or more) for a creamier texture. Avoid using fat-free cottage cheese.
Don't over-blend! This can cause the cottage cheese to separate. Whip it up for just 1-2 minutes, until creamy and smooth.
Recipe FAQs
It tastes just like regular cottage cheese but without the curds.
If you don't have either of those things, you can use an immersion blender. Transfer the cottage cheese into a big enough bowl and puree until smooth.
Not quite! Riccota is made from whey, whereas cottage cheese is made from curds. While whipped cottage cheese does resemble ricotta, they're produced differently.
Fridge: Transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the fridge until it expires.
Freezer: Freezing cottage cheese is possible, but I don't recommend it. The texture will change too much, making it grainy and less enjoyable.
Cottage cheese offers more protein and vitamin B12 and usually has less fat than cream cheese, making it a great high-protein, low-fat option in many recipes. However, cream cheese has its advantages too, with lower sodium and higher calcium content. It depends on what you're looking for, but in general, cottage cheese is considered a healthier choice.
Mix-ins and Toppings
Although whipped cottage cheese is delicious on its own, adding something extra for fun and color never hurts. Here are my suggestions:
Sweet
- Fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, peaches, etc.
- Granola - try my air fryer granola!
- Drizzle of peanut butter or another nut/seed butter of your choice.
- Chopped nuts such as roasted air fryer pecans or walnuts.
- Chia seeds or hemp seeds.
- Honey, agave, or maple syrup.
- A sprinkle of cinnamon or any of your favorite spices.
Savory
- Crispy pan-roasted chickpeas.
- Olive oil, sesame oil, or chili oil.
- Fresh herbs such as dill, basil, thyme, etc.
- Sun-dried tomatoes or fresh tomatoes.
- Olives or capers - my favorite salty flavor-boosters!
How To Use It
- As a dip alongside crackers, air fryer pita chips, homemade vegan naan, of Five Guys cajun fries.
- In my cottage cheese cheesecake, replacing cream cheese.
- As a spread on freshly baked onion bagels, vegan flour tortillas, or your favorite sourdough bread.
- In breakfast/dessert bowls with homemade air fryer granola and fresh seasonal fruit.
- As a dip for this veggie charcuterie board.
- As a spread in sandwiches, burgers, and wraps.
- For making a high-protein cottage cheese ice cream. This was a viral TikTok trend where you'd blend cottage cheese with fruit and a liquid sweeter like honey, then freeze it and scoop it into balls.
