Make this Oreo Bubble Milk Tea with just 5 main ingredients in less than 10 minutes! Also called cookies and cream boba, this drink is creamy, sweet, and SO delicious!

Oreo bubble milk tea served in a large glass with a boba straw in it. Four Oreo cookies placed next to the glass.

This oreo bubble tea was inspired by my chocolate boba recipe, as well as my love for anything cookies and cream related.

It tastes like an oreo milkshake with chewy tapioca pearls at the bottom.

If you are a cookie lover like me, you need to try this drool-worthy recipe! And may I suggest you serve it with a double chocolate chip cookie for even more indulgence?

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Quick and easy to make. This recipe comes together in less than 10 minutes and requires minimal effort.
    • It's cheaper than buying boba at a bubble tea place like Kung Fu Tea or Gong Cha.
    • Customizable. The best part about making oreo bubble milk tea at home is that you get to control how much boba you want and how sweet it is!
    • Made with 5 simple ingredients. The only "fancy" ingredient you'll need is the boba pearls, which you can order online on Amazon or buy from your local Asian grocery store.
    • This Taiwanese drink is sweet, chewy, and refreshing and will make your taste buds sing!

    Ingredients

Gathered ingredients for making our cookies and cream boba, with text overlay on each ingredient.
    • Tapioca pearls: Also known as boba pearls or simply boba, they have a chewy texture and are made with tapioca starch. I like to use black tapioca pearls because they're flavored with brown sugar.
    • Milk: You can use any milk you like, but I am using soy milk because it's rich and creamy.
    • Brown sugar syrup: You'll need 3-4 tablespoons of brown sugar syrup to coat the tapioca pearls after cooking. This sweetens the boba and prevents the pearls from sticking.
    • Ice cream: You can use any ice cream you like. I like to use vanilla ice cream because it's not too overpowering.
    • Brewed tea: I think that black tea and green tea work best, but you can use any tea you like! Make sure to not brew the tea bags for too long so that the tea doesn't turn out bitter.

See the recipe card below for exact measurements.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

    Step 1: Cook tapioca pearls

In a small pot, add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil. Add the pearls and cook over medium heat following the packaging instructions. Then, drain and add to a small bowl. Coat with 2 tablespoons of brown sugar syrup.

Hint: Coat the pearls with the syrup immediately after draining them to prevent them from sticking.

Step 2: Make the oreo milk tea

To a blender, add your milk of choice, vanilla ice cream, brewed black tea, and the oreo cookies (without the frosting).

Blend on high for 1 minute, or until the mixture is completely smooth and no chunks of cookies remain.

Step 3: Assemble the oreo bubble milk tea

Add the tapioca balls to the bottom of a large glass, followed by a few ice cubes.

Pour the milk tea over the ice cubes and give everything a good stir. At this point, you can add more brown sugar syrup if you like it sweeter. Serve right away and top with whipped cream or coconut whipped cream if desired!

    Expert Tips

    • Cook the tapioca pearls according to packaging instructions. Cooking time can vary depending on the brand you're using, so I can't give you exact instructions. Make sure to follow the packaging notes to avoid overcooking your boba.
    • Serve with freshly cooked tapioca pearls. Don't cook the boba ahead of time! The pearls taste best when they're warm and freshly made, and start to harden after a few hours.
    • Adjust the sweetness to your liking. The best part about making boba milk tea at home is that you get to decide how sweet or strong you want it to be. I recommend starting with a small amount of brown sugar syrup (2 tablespoons), and adding more after you taste it.
    • Use a boba straw to enjoy this delicious drink. Regular straws won't work in this recipe, but if you can't get your hands on boba straws, you can use a spoon.

    FAQ

What does oreo bubble milk tea taste like?

It's creamy, sweet, and satisfying and tastes like a cookies and cream milkshake with hints of caramel (from the brown sugar syrup). The best part is the chewy and sweet boba balls at the bottom.

Can you make it in advance?

No, I highly recommend serving it fresh, which means right after you cook the tapioca pearls. They start to harden after a few hours.

Can I make this recipe without a blender?

Yes! Add the oreo cookies to a plastic zip bag. Using a rolling pun or a glass, crush the cookies until you're left with oreo crumbs. Add them to the drink with the rest of the ingredients.

What is the best kind of tea for bubble tea?

Black tea is the most popular tea used in boba tea. However, you can also use Earl Grey tea (it's black tea with a bergamot aroma), and green tea such as jasmine tea or matcha powder.

Does this cookies and cream boba have caffeine?

Yes! This milk tea does have some caffeine from the black tea in it. If you're concerned you can use a caffeine-free tea or just omit it!

    Variations

    • Serve it warm: Simply skip the ice cubes and warm the milk in the microwave or a small saucepan.
    • Use any milk you like: You can use whole milk, almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, etc., depending on your dietary needs. Use dairy-free milk to make this recipe vegan.
    • Deluxe: Add chocolate syrup to take this oreo bubble milk tea to the next level!
    • Kid-friendly: Remove the tea to make it caffeine-free and simply add more milk!

    Storage

I highly recommend serving this cookies and cream boba fresh, right after you cook the tapioca pearls. They tend to get firm and become hard to chew after a few hours.

The only things you can make in advance are simple syrup and brewed tea. The tapioca pearls cook in 5 minutes, so I advise against making a big batch to save for later.
